Description
This is a substantially revised, re-written and re-edited edition of Administrative Law, which has been a leading treatise on the subject since 1970. Administrative law is a fast growing subject and has grown not only through judicial decisions but also through new legislation. While administrative law in the earlier period was concerned more with the powers of the State and its authorities, today it is concerned more with the powers of the people and opportunities fortheir participation in governance. A detailed discussion of the Freedom of Information Act pointing out its shortcomings, the public interest litigation and liability of the State or its officials in the new context makes this edition relevant for concerns such as transparency, accountability and public participation which must inform good governance. Since 1990 a major shift in economic policy from command economy to market economy has taken place. This has necessitated the growth of new regulatory systems for ensuring free competition, and protection of public interest. This edition deals with all such new developments.

About the Author
S.P. Sathe, has been teaching Law since 1957. He retired as Principal of ILS Law College,
Pune in 1991 and since then has been working as Honorary Director of the Institute of
Advanced Legal Studies, Pune. He has contributed several articles in books and journals
