Description
A thought-provoking and often amusing account of the principle, practices, and morality of one of the most frequently maligned and misunderstood of professions. "David Pannick has effectively taken on the job of advocate for the advocates. His book is critical, realistic, informative and consistently entertaining...! have never read the moral issue better argued or more honestly faced...he has achieved a rarity-a book about the legal system that is provocative, accessible and a lot of fun.' Marcel Berlins, Sunday Times 'well written and hugely enjoyable, combining practical advice for lawyers with gentle amusement for the rest of us' Joshua Rozenberg, Guardian an often hilarious exposition of the advocate's role-articulates the Bar's argument for its existence better than any of the defensive pronouncements made by judges and leading barristers.' Helena Kennedy, Independent on Sunday 'the best and clearest exposition of the advocate’s morality I have come across—Everyone setting out to become an advocate should read David Pannick's book and it should be enjoyed by everyone concerned about our trial system and anxious to discover its virtues.' John Mortimer, The Times
