Author Details David Pannick is a Barrister practicing in London. He is a Fellow of All Souls College, Oxford, where he was elected to a Prize Fellowship in 1978. In 1992 he was appointed a QC He has appeared in many of the leading public law cases of the last decade. He represented The Sunday Times in the Spy catcher affair, acted for Tiny Rowland in the battle to win control of Harrods from the Fayeds, unsuccessfully attempted to persuade the European Court of Human Rights to give a transsexual woman the right to marry a man, spoke for the Commonwealth Games Federation when Zola Budd and Annette Cowley sought to compete in the 1986 Commonwealth Games, was briefed by Penguin Books when an attempt was made to prosecute Salman Rush die’s Satanic Verses for blasphemy, appeared for the female cook who won the first case of equal pay for work of equal value, and told the Court of Appeal that a solicitor should have a right of audience to read out an agreed statement in settlement of a libel action. He has appeared in court on behalf of the Attorney-General, Robert Maxwell, the Chief Rabbi, L. Ron Hubbard, and a waitress complaining that she had been dismissed from her job because her employers considered her bust was too large.
