............................................................................................................................. Description The range and diversity of topics covered in this collection of fortnightly columns is as breathtakingly wide as the author’s versatile interests. The width of treatment spans the solemn and the serious to the comic and the bizarre: from law and judiciary not only to politics and governance but also to literary matters, art, society, travel and personalities. It is difficult to pinpoint a set of favourites amongst this rare potpourri, cooked with sensitivity by the author, garnished with the spice of wit and humour, brought to a boil with provocative yet limpid prose and reaching both the heart and the mind with its precision, clarity and candour. Columns deserving special mention in a hypothetical special bouquet will necessarily reflect a subjective selection. They range from those dealing with the administration of justice (under judiciary) to the peculiar case of Peter Bleach and Jurisprudence relating to the penis (under Law) to the property tax imbroglio and the decline of the office of public prosecutor (under Governance) to the column in praise of the communist Party of India, the Maharashtra Elections of 2004 and the Goa theatrics of 2005 (under politics) to the necessity for creation of an International Criminal Court and why Democratic Presidencies in USA are not more sympathetic to India (under External Affairs) to value based education and the Indian habit of preaching Vanaprastha without practicing it (under society) to the right to fly the Indian flag and necessity to emulate china as a role model (under patriotism) to Clinton’s incomparable charisma and madhavrao Scindia’s remarkable persona (under Personality) to the best memoirs and collection of essays read by the author (under Literary) to the Pleasures of travel in New Zeland, Mauritius and elsewhere (under Travel) and, finally, to the joys of Soccer in this Cricket crazy nation (under Sports). .............................................................................................................................
