............................................................................................................................. Description Criminal Law: Cases and Materials by Prof K.D. Gaur, a classic work in the field of criminal law, has been quoted with approval in the judgments of various courts, including the Supreme Court of India. The present edition, extensively revised and updated, not only gives a complete insight into the text of the statutes but also provides a succinct analysis of the black letter. Important topics relating to the fundamentals of crime and criminal law, principles of criminal liability, mens rea under the Indian Penal Code and other statutory offences, strict liability of manufacturers of hazardous substances, offences against human body, medical negligence and worldwide movement towards abolition of capital punishment resulting in its scrapping from the penal laws of 129 countries have been extensively covered. The desirability of capital punishment for rape and other heinous offences like drug trafficking, hijacking, cyber crimes, offences relating to terrorist activities, and crimes relating to terrorism etc, as in the case of kidnapping for ransom, have been thoroughly discussed and critically evaluated. Special care has been taken to include the leading cases of the Supreme Court and the various high courts, wherein the judiciary has played an innovative and pivotal role in evolving new concepts of criminal jurisprudence. A unique feature of the book is the inclusion of important and leading cases of countries like United States of America, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, South Africa, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Hong Kong, Myanmar, Malaysia, etc, on related topics to apprise the readers of the global trends and new horizons of criminal justice.
