Having done his LL.M., Ph.D. from the University of Rajasthan Jaipur and MSL in Environmental Law from the Vermont Law School, USA, he has been teaching Law of Tort and Environmental Law to LL.B. and postgraduate classes since 1971. He has a distinctive academic career.He was awarded first prize under Medini Puruskar by the Department of Forests and Environment, Government of India for his book: Dhvani Pradooshan in 2001.Dr Shastri got the opportunity to visit and lecture at various legal and environmental law institutions in India, viz. The National Law School of India University, Bangalore; Environment Education Centre, Chennai; The Indian Law institute, New Delhi; Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi and various universities abroad.Besides the present work, he has authored and edited over half a dozen books—Pollution and the Environmental Law; Noise Pollution—Its Legal and Scientific Perspective; Man, Nature and Environmental Law, Hamara Paryavaran, to name a few.
