Campaign director Chrissie Maher - an ordinary working-class mother - has been campaigning for better communications since the 1960s. She founded the Campaign in 1979 to fight the tremendous problems created by the bureaucratic language, small print and legalese of official information. The Campaign is an independent, self-funding group which has had incredible success in persuading many organisations in the UK and abroad to communicate with the public in plain language.
