Author Details
Ravi Sodhi
Born June 15th, 1958 in the scenic valleys of Srinagar (J&K), in the family of an army officer Lieutenant Colonel Ram Singh Sodhi, the author graduated in laws form Punjab University, where he later also taught as an honorary part time lecturer. He joined the legal Practice in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Chandigarh in the year 1982, and remained Additional Advocate General of Punjab from 1 April 2003 to 12 August 2005. He is presently the Additional Standing Counsel for Chandigarh Administration.
A lawyer of great eminence, Mr. Ravi Sodhi has been a legal retainer of many prestigious corporate houses. He also has rich experience in arbitration, which includes his appointment as an arbitrator in international arbitration. A Noted Constitutional Expert, having argued many important public interest litigations, the author successfully argued the famous Landmark Constitutional Full Bench of LAL Chand versus State of Haryana (reported as 1998 PLR page 640) in which the 73rd Constitutional Amendment compromising Article 243(o)in which the 73rd Constitutional powers to hear certain election matters was read down. The Author has been providing free legal aid to the public at large since 1995 through the Columns of Reputed National Dailies – The Indian Express and Hindustan Times (Chandigarh Editors), He was awarded the coveted Award ‘Punjab Ratan’ (Jewel of Punjab) by the 27th Annual All India Conference of Intellectuals in the year 2008, for the recognition of his talents and distinguished services, rendered by him to be society at large.
