Author Details Author - Jaising P. Modi Revising Author - Dr. K. Mathiharan & Prof. Amrit K.Patnaik Dr. K. Mathiharan passed his MB, BS and MD (ForensicMedicine) from Madurai Medical College and Madras Medical Collegerespectively. The topic that led to his PhD degree by the Tamil Nadu DrMGR Medical University was Res Ipsa Loquitur: Its Application inMedical Negligence Cases under Consumer Protection Act. Afterpractising as a general practitioner, he joined the faculty of theInstitute of Forensic Medicine, Madras Medical College as an AssistantProfessor. Later, in Chennai, he founded the Institute of LegalMedicine, a data centre on medical law and ethics, consumer rights,human rights and other issues involving the relationship of the lifesciences to the social sciences and humanities. At present, he ispractising as a Consultant Legal Medicine. Prof Dr Amrit K Patnaik passed his MD in Forensic Medicine from MaduraiMedical College in 1978. After working as Professor and Head of theForensic Medicine departments of various government medical colleges ofTamil Nadu, he retired as the Professor and Director, Institute ofForensic Medicine, Madras Medical College, Chennai and State PoliceSurgeon, Government of Tamil Nadu. For many years, he was an examinerof undergraduate and postgraduate examinations in Forensic Medicine invarious universities. He was the guide to PhD scholars and postgraduatestudents in preparing their dissertations and theses. He has publishedpapers in various academic journals.
