About the Book
The Hon'ble Supreme Court has extensively and in great detail laid down rulings on criminal procedure, the conduct of a criminal trial and sentencing, and allied and incidental issues. The nature of the criminal justice system and the criminal process is such that not all rulings of law laid down by the Supreme Court can neatly fit under the various provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code and the Evidence Act and have to be placed under imaginative non-statutory topics under the heading 'Criminal Trial'. Moreover, there are a very large number of special statutes that govern the conduct of criminal proceedings in respect of the offences covered by those special statutes, and it is important to understand the limits of the general criminal procedural law and the special criminal procedural law. Such issues have been covered both under the relevant provisions of CrPC and sub-headings of Criminal Trial.
The present three volume Digest covers the law laid down on the Criminal Procedure Codes of 1973 and 1898 and Criminal Trial by the Supreme Court from its inception in 1950 till date. It has been conceived and planned to enable the discovery of all the rulings, easily and quickly. It is based on the time-tested SCC index system that is now widely accepted and used.
Special Features
The rulings are placed under both topic and statutory headings, and the provisions of CrPC and sub-headings of Criminal Trial are deeply interconnected by a well-planned cross-reference system supported by synopses wherever necessary.
Rulings that could not be placed under the provisions of any particular statute have been placed under the non-statutory topic heading Criminal Trial.
Table of Cases Digested facilitate finding citations and cross-citations of any decision.
The Digest also contains annotations, editorial notes and comments and coram details.
